Book Pricing Is an Economic System, Not a Guess

KDP Profit & Pricing Playbook™ cover — a Mindset Media Group digital guide for modeling KDP royalties, delivery and printing costs, positioning, series pricing, margin scenarios, controlled tests, and recurring profit review.

List price is only one input

A KDP price becomes useful when it is connected to the economics behind the format. eBook royalty structure, delivery cost and file size, print manufacturing costs, and KDP Select or pages-read economics can all change what a nominal price means to the publisher.

Positioning changes the role of price

An entry price and a premium price solve different portfolio problems. Series architecture, format mix, reader expectations, and the role of a specific volume should be considered before copying a competitor’s number.

Model margin before expanding formats

Paperback, hardcover, and eBook economics should be modeled separately. Margin scenarios make the tradeoffs visible before adding formats, changing price bands, or assuming additional sales will improve profit.

Price tests need review windows

A price change without a defined review window can turn into continuous reactive editing. A controlled test records the starting assumptions, the variable being changed, the evidence to watch, and the date on which the result will be reviewed.

Audit royalties and margins on a cadence

KDP pricing rules, royalty bands, costs, and program economics can change. A quarterly royalty and margin audit keeps the model current while preventing daily noise from controlling the catalog.

The KDP Profit & Pricing Playbook™ field manual turns this framework into 12 chapters of workflows, decision rules, tools, measurement, diagnosis, experiments, SOPs, and implementation worksheets.
